The new EU regulatory framework

The ESPR – Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (EU 2024/1781) entered into force on 18 July 2024. The detailed implementation rules will be defined through Delegated Acts, published according to sector-specific Working Plans covering all manufacturing industries. The first Working Plan 2025-30 is already underway and will establish requirements for the following sectors: Textiles, Furniture, Tyres, Iron, Steel and Aluminium. In addition, it will introduce horizontal requirements on Repairability, Recycled content, Recyclability for Electrical and Electronic Equipment. From the date of adoption of the relevant Delegated Acts, companies will have 18 months to comply.

Some product groups are already regulated through product-specific legislation, including Batteries (Regulation EU 2023/1542), Construction Products (Regulation EU 2024/3110).
